Third Sunday
in Lent

Exodus 3:1-15
Psalm 63:1-8
1 Corinthians 10:1-13
Luke 13:1-9

Almighty God, you know that we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves: Keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

  HomeConnect

Each week, in this section of the Epistle, a FaithWeaver HomeConnect idea will appear to give you a chance to look at the upcoming Sunday School lessons as well as the opportunity to incorporate Sunday School into your Monday through Saturday lives.

Our Christ-like actions show we're Christians.

Link:
Rotten Fruit
Look at the photos of the rotting fruits and vegetables in order. Which would you rather see on your dining table, fruit from Day 1 or fruit from Day 40?

Link:
Fruit Tray
At this site, look at the picture of the fresh fruit on the tray. What does the glow on the fruit tell you about it? How is the fresh fruit different from the rotting fruit that you saw at the first Web site?

In Luke 6:43-44, Jesus uses fruit to teach about the actions of people. Use what you have learned from the pictures you viewed to answer the following questions:
What did you see on the fruit's skin that showed you that it was rotting? What did the outside signs tell you about the heart of the fruit? Was it useful once it rotted? Why or why not?

What things do you see on fresh fruit that make you want to eat it? What do those things tell you about the heart of the fruit?

What do an individual's actions tell others about what is in the heart of that person? How do unbecoming actions affect a Christian's testimony? What actions can you do to show others a healthy walk with Christ?
Saint Paul's E-Pistle
3-3-2010

Today is the Feast of John and Charles Wesley
Lord God, you inspired your servants John and Charles Wesley with burning zeal for the sanctification of souls, and endowed them with eloquence in speech and song; Kindle in your Church, we entreat you, such fervor, that those whose faith has cooled may be warmed, and those who have not known Christ may turn to him and be saved; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Church Incarnate
Habitat Groups Here All Month
Beginning on Sunday, March 7th our education building will be full of teams from all over the country which have come to Foley to help out with Habitat for Humanity.  Our first team comes to us from Father Steve's hometown of Lancaster, PA.  Be sure to offer them our southern hospitality.
EMI Food Pantry Donations - From Mike and Meg Scott
Cereal, cereal, cereal.  There were so many boxes on Sunday that Mike had to make two trips to the car.  However, they were the only boxes to put on the shelf on Monday at Ecumenical Ministries so that is the request of the week again.  More cereal, please.

Last week we took in a case of Maruchan Instant Lunch and that also was all given away, not one was left on the shelf.  Complete meals are also always given out immediately.  I was given a coupon worth 75 cents for any flavor Helper Complete Meals Dinner Kits so we will buy one of those and see how much they cost since I have no idea where to find the best price.

Thank you to all of you who gave so generously during the last month.  Meg and Mike

Give your food to the hungry and care for the homeless. Then your light will shine in the dark; your darkest hour will be like the noonday sun.  Isaiah 58:10 (Contemporary English Version)
FES - Read Across America
In honor of the birthday of noted children's author, the late Dr. Seuss, Foley Elementary is participating in the NEA's Read Across America on Friday, March 5th from 9 until 10.  Volunteers will read books to classes in the hopes of motivating children to want to read.  Regular FES volunteers can talk with their teachers, while others who are interested can contact Father Steve.
Habitat ReStoreReStore
Stan Lieser (943-5410) is coordinating a once-a-month St. Paul's Day at the new Habitat for Humanity of Baldwin County ReStore.  Volunteers are needed to do various tasks from pricing to paint mixing to heavy lifting.  St. Paul's will designate the 2nd Thursday of each month to help out from 9am til 5pm or whatever hours you can help.  Please let the Parish Office know if you can help on our first day, March 11th.
Family Promise of Baldwin County
Beginning the week of April 25, 2010 our guests will stay for 2 weeks at a time while we host only twice a year.  We hope this will give more of you the opportunity to volunteer and make life a little easier for our guests.  A sign-up sheet for volunteers is hanging in the Parish Hall.  For more information, contact Sandy Pease ( 970-3998) or Betty Millican (987-5783).
Cleaning for a Reason
Sara Majors passed this along to us - If you know of a women currently undergoing Chemotherapy, she may be able to get her house cleaned four times, for free.  www.cleaningforareason.org/ opens its registration at Noon Central every Monday through Friday in order to give 50 applicants the chance to sign up for free maid service once a month for four months while undergoing chemo.  Its tough to catch, but if you do, it is one less thing to worry about.
Don't Forget your Box Tops and Soup Labels
We continue to collect Box Tops for Foley Elementary School.  Simply find, cut out, and bring to Church the label below and help FES earn much needed cash for education.
Boxtops for Education
Campbell's Soup labels are also being collected in the same box.
Parish News and Events
Wednesday's in Lent - "Filled with the Spirit!"
Based on the work of your Vestry while on retreat, we have decided to take on the challenge of growing fruit and exercising gifts for Lent and Easter 2010.  In Baptism we are sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked as Christ's own forever.  All of us have God given talents, but our joy is made full when we use those gifts to bring honor and glory to God.  Our hope is that over eight weeks in Lent and Easter 2010 our Parish Family will have the opportunity to listen, mentor, inspire, encourage, dream, and integrate the Spirit into our everyday lives.

Our evenings begin at 6pm with a light supper and are followed by a brief lesson and some hand-on activities.  We hope you will join us on 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 4/14, 4/21, 4/28, and 5/5.

DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR BIBLES!

Men's Dinner
The Third Thursday is coming quickly!  March 18th at 6pm the Men of St. Paul's will gather to celebrate the Feast of St. Patrick with Franklin's Famous Corned Beef and Cabbage.  Invite a friend and join us for an evening of fun and fellowship.

St. Paul's is getting ready to hold its first fund-raising event on Saturday, April 24, 2010.  Plate lunches of barbecue will be sold.  There will be music by the Sand Spur Band, craft booths, and maybe even a dunk tank for the Associate Rector.

If you or someone you know is interested in obtaining a vendor booth for the Pig Out please find the application on our website at http://saintpaulsfoley.com/pigout.html
Don't Forget to Wear your Name Tag
The St. Paul's family is blessed to worship with visitors almost every Sunday.  Why not help them get to know us a little easier (and maybe get to know someone else while you're at it) by wearing your name tag every Sunday.  If yours is lost, that's OK, we will make you a new one.
five15 five15 continues every Saturday
